As Renfrew-Collingwood continues to grow and change along with the rest of Vancouver, the experiences and stories of people in the neighbourhood can tell us about how our community has transformed over time. This site will be a forum for anyone interested in the discussion about our neighbourhood, the places within and the people who live in it, in ways that explore our diverse cultures and histories through online media.
The R-C zine features contributions made by students from local high schools, including articles, photographic collections, creative writing, and oral history about the Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood and its residents, past and present. Our goal is to capture different aspects of community history – to bring it out of the textbooks and into the realm of arts, photography, food, environment, and education. It is our hope that readers will not only be interested, but inspired to shaping their neighbourhood into a better place by being more involved in their communities.
In publishing this magazine, our youth contributors learn media and design skills to become modern-day storytellers. In turn, community members gain a creative medium to contribute their experiences and stories into Renfrew-Collingwood’s cultural tapestry.
